Yuri grew up on a farm in rural Petaluma, CA, without a TV, which meant he spent plenty of time outdoors roaming the hills looking for adventure when he wasn't doing ranch chores. After a successful collegiate career playing lacrosse for UC Berkeley, and armed with a degree in American literature, Yuri discovered the joys of mountain biking while teaching English at a prep school in Pennsylvania, and hasn't looked back since. A two-time solo winner of the 24-Hours of Adrenaline and 9th place finisher at the 2006 24-Hour Solo World Championships, Yuri's criss-crossed the country seeking his next two-wheeled trip. Speaking of trips, in 2013 Yuri discovered the Dirty Kanza 200, arguable the most difficult gravel grinder in the country, and was bitten by the gravel bug. He won the 2015 edition, the hardest one in the event's 10 history, in an epic two up sprint. When he's not racing his bike or working his day job as Community Development Manager for GU Energy Labs, Yuri spends much time seeking the path less traveled with his wife, Vanessa, and their large Rhodesian Ridgeback, Kingston. The Cyclist's Menu couldn't be more excited to have Yuri's easy-going personality and contagious positive energy for our week of rowdy Tucson gravel riding!
